Schilling’s Drawings Included In International Art Show

ALAMOSA (September 12) – Adams State University Professor of Art Eugene Schilling was one of 16 artists invited from Colorado to participate in the show, “From Here and There: Drawings from Colorado and Wales.” This exhibition is part an international exchange of contemporary drawings between artists in Colorado and Wales.

The show was first exhibited at the Elysium Gallery in Swansea Wales early this summer. The exhibit opens on September 26 in Colorado State University’s Clara Hatton Gallery, with a reception at 6 p.m. in the Visual Arts Building room F101. The show continues through October 31.

An exchange of drawings is an open channel for communication, an opportunity to compare, and a chance to, not only learn from ideas, but to share aspects of our individual lives. Such a discourse is vital in our increasingly global community, enriching our knowledge and awareness in countless ways. The drawings on exhibition reference a broad spectrum of approaches and issues, be they personal or political, social or environmental.

The works are diverse, edgy, and controversial; generating interest and commentary on cultural difference and experience while expanding the dialogue and debate that redefines the current state of contemporary drawing.  Such an exchange generates a dialogue not only between artists in Wales and Colorado, but also generates a dialogue amongst all those who attend.
Schilling, an artist/educator presently teaching painting and drawing at Adams State. He has exhibited his works both nationally and internationally in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Japan, China, and Brazil.
