During the Adams State University Faculty Lecture, associate professor of sociology Dr. Stephanie Hilwig will deliver “Invisible Sexism: Eradicating What We Don’t See.” The free event begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in Porter Hall room 130.
In virtually every field, women earn less than men. This includes women working in the same fields as men, with the same educational experience, the same work experience, and the same skills. Why does this pay gap persist, despite growing recognition of gender inequalities? In these same fields, men express concern over these inequalities and express motivation to treat women equally. Similarly, women in these fields, while earning less money, report that they have never personally experienced sexual discrimination.
All talks are free and the public is invited. Complimentary light refreshments will be offered. For further information on the series of lectures, contact Dr. Kristy Duran, assistant professor of biology, at 719-587-7767, or by email: klduran@adams.edu.
