Lifeways of the San Luis Valley Set for Spring

ALAMOSA (January 28) – The Adams State University Title V Hilos Culturales lecture series, “Lifeways of the San Luis Valley,” has scheduled a variety of free lectures, and a return of the concert, Musica de la Gente, for the spring 2014 semester. Community members are invited to attend the lectures, which begin at 6 p.m. in McDaniel Hall room 201, unless otherwise noted.
February 4: “La Conquista and the History of the Southwest,” by Dr. Michele Trujillo, associate professor of Teacher Education;
February 6: “Rituals of Integration,” by Karen Lemke, director of college readiness program;
February 11: “Jicarilla Apache Mythologies,” by Carey Vicenti;
February 13: “Healing Plants of the Southwest,” by Dr. Kristy Duran, assistant professor of biology;
February 25: “La Virgen de Guadalupe,” by Dennis Lopez;
February 27: “Instaurator Ruinae: The Heroine’s Journey, Ranching in El Valle de San Luis,” by Sofia Marquez.
March 4: “Hispano Cultural Landscapes,” by Arnold Valdez;
March 18: “From Tepayac to Guadalupe,” by Rogelio Briones;
March 20: “The Sacred Art of the Santero,” by Lawrence Gallegos;
April 8: “Magic, Writing & Social Justice,” by Doctora Clara Martinez Campoamor;
April 10: The concert – Musica de la Gente II –with Frank McCulloch at 7 p.m. in Carson Auditorium;
April 17: “The Ethics of La Querencia,” by Joseph Gallegos;
April 29: “Rise, Do Not Be Afraid,” by Aaron Abeyta, professor of English.
