ALAMOSA, CO. (Jan. 14, 2013) . . . Colorado Public Radio’s program Colorado Matters, will air an interview with Adams State University President David Svaldi and Lt. Gov. Svaldi and Garcia discuss the financial challenges facing Colorado higher education. They are optimistic about the Governor’s budget proposal to increase higher education funding by $101.8 million, including a $40.72 million increase to student financial aid.
“We are thrilled about the increase in need-based financial aid,” Svaldi said. “Adams State has the highest percentage of high-need students among Colorado’s public universities.” He added the average annual family income this year among ASU students applying for financial aid is just under $25,000.
“Adams State has managed to survive for 90 years, and it is extremely important to our mission and our region that we remain open and thrive. In fact, we have been thriving through most of the recession.”
Svaldi also describes how the university’s strategic plan achieved enrollment growth and improved the campus in the absence of state capital funding. He noted this fall’s freshman class is the second largest in history. More than $65 million in campus construction and renovation were completed over the last seven years, including student housing and academic facilities.
