Women’s swimming adds a second win to their season and moves on to being 3-0 with a sweeping defeat of Colorado Mesa and Wayland Baptist, while the men’s team fall to both Wayland Baptist and Colorado Mesa in their opening meet for the season.
With this impressive second meet the Women’s squad shattered another four pool records adding on to the six that went down at the grizzlies last home meet against Western State.  The men were also able to claim one new pool record during the weekend’s competition.
The first event of the meet saw the first record two records to fall; the “A” relay for the woman’s 400-yard medley relay broke the pool record with a time of 4:06.91, while in the same event the lead off swimmer for the grizzlies “B” relay, freshman Marissa Mantzey, set the pool record for the 100-yard backstroke with a solid time of 1:01.36.
The next record to fall was the women’s 200-yard freestyle with sophomore Tara Gerbert. Gerbert went a time of 2:01.97 barley edging out the previous record of 2:02.07 that was set back in 2010 by a member of the Mesa State team.
The final record to fall for the women was in the final event of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay. Mantzey, Gerbert, Briana Trujillo and Melissa Lopez put together a combined time of 3:46.68 smashing the previous pool record of 3:51.16 set by Mesa State in 2010.
For the men’s team, Junior Ben Laxson claimed the only pool record with a time of 59.90 in the men’s 100-yard breastroke.
On Nov. 16, ASU takes on Colorado College at home.
