Adams State University will forego its holiday tradition of decorating Richardson Hall this year, due to upcoming construction on the 88-year-old structure. In addition, the concrete fascia that crowns Richardson Hall has become unstable and could make decorating hazardous, according to Bill Mansheim, Adams State vice president for Finance and Governmental Relations. Demolition to prepare for the remodeling will begin in mid-December, he said. “We will nevertheless carry the holiday spirit in our hearts, and the completed renovation of this historic landmark will not only enhance our campus, but the community as well,” said Dr. David Svaldi, president of Adam State. Funded by a state capital construction award, the $16.9 million project will replace electrical, plumbing, and heating/cooling systems to achieve energy and resource efficiencies. It will also better utilize the building’s space and improve accessibility in accordance with ADA regulations (Americans with Disabilities Act.) The Adams State campus has been transformed through $65 million in improvement projects over the last seven years, and the Richardson Hall renovation will conclude that work.
