The clock is ticking on the Federal Government to figure out how the U.S is going to pay their outstanding bills. Parts of the Government will shut down by the first of October if there isn’t an agreement between the squabbling parties.
It isn’t the first time the Federal Government shut down. In 1995 and 1996 the government shut down for similar reasons we are facing today. It’s funny to think that such highly educated people are running a country of such stature.
The shutdown has come at a particularly bad time- if there ever was one- as the market is beginning to show signs of recovery.
If the shutdown does happen how is it going to affect us I hear you ask? Well first of all if these selfish, self-indulged, ignorant politicians don’t figure it out they will leave one of the world’s powerhouses with a bit part government.
According to the Washington Post more than 800,000 federal workers will have some time off if the shutdown does happen. Don’t get too excited, because it will be unpaid time off, although congress in the past has compensated their workers.
Imagine a country such as the U.S without democracy. The U.S is a country that strives to be a democratic nation, yet it has politicians that cannot figure out how to pay its bills and put the people and the nation first.
If a member of congress votes to deny federal workers their pay, I could imagine there being a few people with a few words to say. I imagine all the politicians in congress will still be getting their paycheck in the mail because heaven forbid they take a pay cut.
It’s not only federal workers and institutions that will be affected. Small businesses, new house buyers, anyone who wants a loan will have to wait.
Postmen and uniformed officials will be working, but don’t expect that check in the mail anytime soon, because you will be waiting a while.
It’s crazy to think that we put so much faith, time, and money into our government and they can’t figure out how to do something as basic as paying their bills on time. I think the biggest kick in the privates is the fact that such a credible nation could take a huge blow to its pride, especially since not too long ago the U.S lost its AAA credit rating.
When I think of a government meltdown I think of the movie The Purge. Hopefully it won’t be like that, but, I’m sure some of us will be affected by the absolute pandemonium heading our way.
