On November 23rd, the Adams State College Lady Grizzlies took on the Hawaii Pacific University Sea Warriors in a thrilling game full of action and surprises. The Grizzlies ended up breaking a 17- year old RMAC record by beating the Sea Warriors 90- 68.  Starting off the game was ASC’s Vera Jo Bustos with an opening three pointer that came just 55 seconds into the game.  From then on, Adams took control of the game, and dominated in every aspect.

Lead by Bustos, who had the game high 21 points and 7 rebounds, junior Kendra Coveal had 19 points and was 9 for 10 from the free throw line. Helping out with the Grizzly efforts were teammates Kelsie Kruger who also had a career high 19 points, while junior Crystal Loch had 11 points and was 6 for 7 from the free throw line before she fouled out. Senior Misti Solomon who had the game high 7 assists, also had 10 points and was 5 for 6 from the free throw line.

Hawaii Pacific picked up their game going 20 for 30 from the three point line, and fouling out three players. However, this was not enough heading in to the second half, with the Grizzlies leading 59 -42.  In the second half the Sea Warriors fought back hard and came to within 10 points of the Grizzlies. At 13:37 left in the game, HPU’s Mackenna Karasawa gave the Sea Warriors a 3 pointer that lead to the closing of the margin. However, ASC was determined not to give up that easily. Freshman Marissa Peterson gave the Grizzlies something to build on in the final minutes of the game.  With 10:23 left, Peterson started the 10-3 run that allowed the Grizzlies to score 21 more points and easily walk away with the victory.

Throughout the game, the Grizzlies made 42 free throw shots and broke the conference record that was held by Chadron in the 1992-1993 season. This new record was just 10 points shy of the NCAA Division 2 record set by Northern State in 1992.
