Kaymarie Jones
Women’s Track and Field Senior
Adams State senior women’s track and field athlete Kaymarie Jones (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) has been named the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 5.
At the UNM Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. on Saturday, Jones posted her second automatic qualifier of the season. Jones ran the 400 meter dash in a time of 54.43 seconds (54.84 adjusted), which is currently the number 3 time in the nation in the event.
The ASC Grizzlies.com Athlete of the Week award, which is handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators, as well as by visitors to ASCGrizzlies.com who cast their votes in an on-line fan poll. Jones also competed in the distance medley relay (DMR), where she and her teammates ran a provisional qualifying time of 11:59.52 (11:50.69 adjusted) and placed second at the meet. Last weekend in Albuquerque, Jones posted a qualifying time in the 60 meter hurdles.
Jones received all first place votes from media members. In the on-line fan poll, Jones tied for second place with senior men’s basketball player Marqus Richards (Los Angeles, Calif.). Senior wrestler Luke McPeek (Albuquerque, N.M.) received the most fan votes in the on-line poll.
Other nominees for the award included junior women’s basketball player Jamonica Hudgins (Las Cruces, N.M.) and men’s track and field athlete Malik McKinney (Denver, Colo.).
