McGlynn Recognized in the Mile by the RMAC

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Adams State junior distance ace Kristen McGlynn (Bailey, Colo.) punched her ticket to the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships with an automatic qualifying time of four minutes, 54.17 seconds (4:48.36 adjusted), and for her effort has been tabbed as this week’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.
Sophomore Kelly Lamb (Creede, Colo.) ran a provisional qualifying mark in the same race, and her time of 5:06.29 (5:00.20 adjusted) shaved 8/10ths of a second off the time she ran one week prior.
In the throwing ring, sophomore Katie Kruger (Alamosa, Colo.) was the winner of Saturday’s shot put, where her mark of 13.47 meters (44’2 ½”) reached the provisional standard, but did not improve upon her best throw of the season from December.
Senior KayMarie Jones (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) put forth the Grizzlies’ only other automatic mark of the weekend, doing so in the 60 meter hurdles, an event in she earned all-American status in last season. Jones was the top ASC runner, just edging out teammate and defending DII indoor champ Indira Spence (Trelawny, Jamaica), with a time of 8.41 seconds (8.43 adjusted), good for second place. Her adjusted time was right on the cut-off for automatic qualifying.
Spence, who finished third place in 8.44 seconds (8.46 adjusted), was a provisional qualifier in the 60 meter hurdles Saturday, one day after recording a provisional mark in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.49 seconds (24.86 adjusted), her best of the season.
The final two Grizzly NCAA qualifying runners at the UNM Invitational both came in the 800 meter run Saturday, and both did so provisionally. Senior Cassie Mitchell (Tustin, Calif.) finished third in the race, but her time of 2:11.65 (2:11.21 adjusted) is the DII leading mark thus far. Just over one second later, sophomore Alicia Nelson (Craig, Colo.) crossed the line with a time of 2:12.75 (2:12.31 adjusted), currently No. 4 in DII.
The Grizzlies will be spending one more weekend in Albquerque this Friday and Saturday at the Univ. of New Mexico Classic, bringing to an end a streak of three weeks in action at UNM hosted events. Following the UNM Classic, the Grizzlies will split up for the weekend of Feb. 10-11 between the University of Washington Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., and the Air Force Invitational.
