Adams State College freshman women’s golfer Rachel Reiling (Littleton, Colo.), has been named as the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Sept. 19.
Reiling set a new Grizzly freshman scoring record by posting a round of 77 in the opening round of the season at last week’s Colorado Christian Invitational/RMAC #1. She made 13 pars and five bogeys in that steady round on Monday, Sept. 12, before following that up with an 83 in the second round on Tuesday, Sept. 13 to finish tied for 17th at the tournament. Nearly a week later, Reiling matched her 77 in the second round of the Grizzly Invitational, finishing 12th with a 36-hole total of 163. Her rounds of 77 are both tied for fourth best in Grizzly history. Through two tournaments, Reiling is leading the Grizzlies with an 80.8 stroke average. She has two top-20 finishes and a .716 head-to-head winning percentage and is on pace to set overall school records for both stroke average and winning percentage.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week award, which will be handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators as well as by visitors to the Grizzly website, who could cast their vote in an online poll.
Reiling won the award by a narrow margin as she won the media member and administrator votes by a couple and garnered only 6.9 percent of the votes cast online.
Volleyball player Gabriella Rifilato, men’s soccer player Johnny Mercer, men’s cross country runner Edwin Cruz, women’s cross country runner Kelly Lamb, Men’s golfer Josh Hensley, women’s soccer player Autumn Boyer and football player Terjean Saffold were this week’s other nominees.
