Adams State Career Fair Sees Largest Turnout to Date

On March 3 the Adams State College Counseling and Career Center held their annual Career Fair.
According to Gregg Elliott, the director of the Counseling and Career Center, this was a record-breaking year for the fair with approximately 33 employers attending the fair seeking new graduates and students for summer jobs, internships, and careers.
“If the fair continues to grow we may have to move over to the field house next year,” Elliott said. Some of employers present at the fair were the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Colorado Department of Corrections, Colorado Workforce Center, United States Forest Service, Wal-Mart Management, Peace Corps, United State Marines, United States Army, United States Navy, and the local railroad company.
Most employers put a lot of effort into their presentation and recruitment efforts. The employers had enough information for a job seeker to make an informed decision, and many of the employers gave potential employees job applications or information on how to proceed with the application process. This definitely was the biggest career fair compared to previous years, only adding to the huge and positive improvements occurring on the Adams State College campus. It is quite positive for our campus and our graduates that employers such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation are willing to find recruits and new employees from Adams State College. That speaks volumes for the education we are receiving.
Of course there’s always a bit of room for improvement. Only one graduate school was present, with only one program.  This was the Adams State College School of Business with their Master of Business Administration program.
Adams State College has more than just one program in the graduate school, and it would have been great for other programs and interests to be represented. There also seemed to be a lack of local employers from the San Luis Valley. Most of the employees were from Colorado, but were far away from the San Luis Valley region.
The Adams State College Career Fair was a good experience and success. There were many opportunities with great potential in great careers.
