Chemistry Magic Show

Adams State College, in conjunction with the Chemistry Department, is hosting the 19th annual “Having a Ball with Chemistry” show at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 23rd in the Richardson Hall Auditorium and invites all ASC students to attend. The “magic” show is a fun showcase of scientific demonstrations that are presented to people of all ages, continuing an old Adams tradition of chemistry students and faculty engaging the audience in a rapid-fire series of experiments highlighting the almost mystical effects of changing colors, the very intense conditions of  temperature extremes, bright lights and loud noises, all presenting the multiple faces of science.

The chemistry magic show is to feature a variety of “tricks” to entertain audience members, and cookies and beverages will be available at the beginning of the show. Interested audience members can continue their magic show experience by participating in safe and fun activities organized on the third floor of Porter Hall right after the show’s conclusion.

Both the chemistry magic show and the hands-on activity center afterwards are free of charge to students and local community members and are meant to allow students to be introduced to the excitement chemistry can instill when observed in action. Younger children are asked to be accompanied by a supervising adult, but all interested people are encouraged to attend. Seating should be no issue, even to larger groups, although large groups planning to observe the chemistry magic show are asked to RSVP their attendance with professor of chemistry, Dr. Marty Jones, by phone at 719-587-7262 or associate professor of chemistry, Dr. Christy Miller, at 719-587-7506.
