Adams State College will be buzzing this weekend as the Grizzlies will be playing host to several home events this weekend.
The action starts off on Friday when the women’s soccer team plays host to the No. 5 ranked Fort Lewis College Skyhawks at 3 p.m. at Murphy Field.
At 7 p.m. that evening Plachy Hall will play host to the Adams State Volleyball team will play host to Western New Mexico.
On Saturday, the volleyball team and football team will be hosting San Luis Valley night. The action starts with the volleyball team playing at 5 p.m. against New Mexico Highlands.
At 7 p.m. the Grizzly football squad will be playing Fort Lewis in Adams State’s first-ever night game at Rex Stadium. The game is going to be for the Musket. Last year the Grizzlies won the game and the Grizzlies will also be going for their third straight win.
As part of the promotion, all San Luis Valley high school students with a valid student ID or high school letter jacket will be let in to both events for free.
Furthermore, all other San Luis Valley residents will receive admission to both events for the price of one.
The festivities will continue later that evening at 10 p.m. in Plachy Hall when the Grizzly men’s and women’s basketball teams will host a Basketball Bash showcasing the 2010-11 squads. That event is free for all fans. Free pizza, popcorn and drinks will also be provided.
The activities are plentiful and door prizes will be given throughout the night. A free throw shooting contest will also be held giving fans a chance to win a Grizzly basketball t-shirt for just $2. The evening will also be capped with a shootout giving one lucky fan a chance to win tuition and books for a semester by making a layup, free throw, 3-point shot and half-court shot, all in 30 seconds.
In between, the Grizzly men’s and women’s teams will be introduced. Members of the women’s teams will hold a 3-point shooting contest while the men’s squad will have a slam-dunk contest. The two teams will also clash head-to-head in a hot shot competition giving fans a chance to cheer for their favorite team and players.
The women’s soccer team will then wrap up the weekend when they play Colorado School of Mines and will be in position to clinch a playoff berth.
