This year’s holiday season was kicked off with the Adams State Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair held on November 18th with nearly 30 vendors from near and far in attendance displaying their crafting skills and vending their wares for the annual event. Items being sold ranged from baked goods and homemade jellies to beautiful metal, wood and leather work. Hand-crafted jewelry along with plenty of yarn and needlework were all on display and up for sale by talented artists and crafters from all around Colorado.
The campus community was also involved in the festivities as all in attendance indulged in live performances by the talented campus voices and musicians from the ASU music department. The Sunset Brass Quartet was first on scene performing an hour-long set of holiday cheer followed by 68 West supplying their remarkable talents with many classic and contemporary songs performed with their signature acapella rhythms. Finally, the Woodwind Quintet performed and provided the crowd with the warm, inviting instrumentals of the holiday season.
Adams State Athletics was also on hand as players from the Adams State Football team represented and assisted with the floor plan by setting up the booths, tables and chairs and a lot of heavy lifting.
Among the campus organizations, Phi Beta Lambda and The Pen & Inkwell Writers Guild represented everything great about Adams State and provided freshly baked goods and hot cocoa to vendors and customers alike.
The San Luis Valley Community showed much appreciated support as well, with many families and friends stopping by to get a head start on holiday shopping in search of unique gifts and items that were sure to please. Shoppers were treated to beautiful works of art such as hand crafted lamps and holiday arrangements by our very own Mr. Otis Hager and his wife as well as an assortment of hand-tooled leather craft by Mr. Earnest Gallegos owner/operator of Mountain Monkeys Leather. Amy Larson with “Faces By Amylady” was on scene creating painted works of art on the faces of children of all ages. The sights, sounds and aromas of the craft fair immersed Plachy Field House in the good tidings of the holiday spirit.
