The words Spring Break mean different things to students at Adams State College. It is not just time to stop doing homework and going to classes. Spring Break is a time to be brave and learn life skills hands on. For some, Spring Break was a time to go home to spend quality time with friends, family, and/ or the television. For others, it was an opportunity to be adventurous by traveling somewhere out of the San Luis Valley, the gorgeous Colorado state, and even out of the country.
Different clubs and programs through the school allowed students to go on some pretty awesome trips. The Adams State Adventure Program went to surf in San Diego, California; United Campus Ministry group went to volunteer for the homeless in San Francisco, California; Pacioli (Accounting Business Club) went to the accounting firm Ernst and Young in London, England, and The United Nations Club went to Switzerland to learn about international politics and government for one and a half weeks. Clubs and programs through the school are a great way to learn hands on about things that will help for future careers.
Some students went on their own courageous trip traveling across the country stopping at different colleges to scope out graduate programs. Others went to different businesses and organizations to find an intern job for the summer. For most seniors, this was their last break prior to graduation before they go into the real world and had to work on papers, internship projects, and theses assignments. For some, it was a chance to see family that they only get to see once a year.
Relaxation time was a key to a successful break for some. For students, there is nothing better than staying at home catching up on television episodes, movies, and finally getting to beat the hardest level in Call of Duty. Some students did not even have the luxury of traveling home or on an adventure. Their exploration was to try and figure out what to eat because the La Mesa Dining Hall was closed while catching up on some homework.
No matter where students went or did on their individual Spring Break, they did learn some kind of life skill. Some advice for the future in for breaks that arise ahead, remember to have fun and be the best version of you. Remember the awesome moments and stories in college because they will be some of the best stories of your life.
