Adams State College junior Indira Spence clocked the second fastest 100-meter hurdle time in program history as she posted a mark of 13.08 seconds to easily take over the NCAA Division II National Performance list lead in the event while competing in the invitational section of the event at the 53rd Annual Mt. SAC Relays, which wrapped up Saturday here at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Spence, who was running into a 1.1-meter per second headwind on Saturday, set the ASC school-record of 13.05 seconds to win last year’s meet. She and USC’s Nia Ali, who set a collegiate leading time of 12.89 to finish second, were the only collegiate athletes in the elite race. Spence, who ranks third on the all-time NCAA Division II performers list, took sixth.
Her time gives her an incredible 0.28 second lead on the national performance list and also eclipsed the “B” qualifying standard of 13.15 seconds for this summer’s IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
Spence, who won last year’s Jamaican National Championship to earn a spot on that country’s team for international competition last year, now holds the fastest legal time of any Jamaican this year.
