“The Citizens” are the winners of the Capital One Cup

The team from Manchester managed to beat Sunderland with 3:1 and win the 54th Capital One championship. This is the third time City has won the trophy in its history, and the way the game developed showed that Manchester City is a tough team made out of mentally and physically strong players who were able to push through the temporary setbacks throughout the game. The Capital One final was played at the Wembley stadium, where the “black cats” from Sunderland scored first in the 10th minute after a goal by the Italian forward Fabio Borini. The 38th minute Borini was really close to score another one, but a great defensive play by Vincent Kompany cleared the ball right at the moment when the forward was trying to shoot on goal. However though the team from Manchester was the more active of the two teams in the first half, creating good goal scion opportunities. Going in half time losing 1:0 to the 18th in the EPL at the moment, was definitely frustrating for the “citizens,” but they came out for the second half extremely concentrated and ready to win. It took them only 105 seconds in between the 55th and the 56th minutes, to turn the whole game around. After amazing goals by Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri, the “citizens” took the lead and never let go of it until the referee’s final whistle. Towards the end of the game Sunderland put all of their forces in attacking, trying to get the equalizer. Steven Fletcher missed the best opportunity that the “black cats” had throughout the second half. In the added time, Jesus Navas scored after a quick counter-attack by Manchester City, where Yaya Toure found the Spanish wing. With a near post shot, Navas “put” the championship in City’s hands. While the team from Manchester won its 3rd Capital One cup, Sunderland lost in the final for the second time in the club’s history.
