In local news, an unusual amount of rain combined with the beautiful valley sunshine has caused noxious weeds to flourish this summer. Residents of the valley who don’t pull their weeds receive a warning from the Alamosa Code enforcement, which is followed by a citation.
GOP Sen. Larry Crowder said to the Alamosa County Commissioners on Wednesday he would press the federal government to create a line item in the national budget for noxious weed control on public lands.
In regional news, Colorado is selling more recreational marijuana then medical, the state Department of Revenue released.
The Department of Revenue released data that said in the month of July Colorado reported $29.7 million in taxes for recreational marijuana and $28.9 million in taxes for medical.
Although, Colorado still has fewer recreational marijuana shops compared to medical shops the recreational market is booming.
In national news, a record breaking Hurricane named Odile hit the Baja California peninsula of Mexico on Monday. Hurricane Odile destroyed local resorts, flooded roads and caused parts of hotels to collapse injuring 135 people.
The 125 mph hurricane has weakened to a category two hurricane; however, torrential rain is expected to cause greater problems in Mexico. Some states in the US could be affected by the rain.  Regions spanning from Arizona, Nevada, and Utah could feel the knock on effect.
In international news, after ISIS beheaded another Westerner, US Secretary of State John Kerry pleaded that the Middle East Leaders joined the coalition in the fight against the extreme militants.
The US said it will take a “broad international coalition” to defeat ISIS. More than two dozen nations met in the Paris to discuss the international threat of the militant group. The French government said it will “ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.”
