In local news, Adams State University has made changes to the ASU policy handbook. The modification to the anti-discrimination policy in the handbook will see language defining transgender and gender expression added. Tracy Rogers, ASU’s Human Resources Director said “It is more on an explanation than an expansion.”     Following up from last week’s Labor Day weekend, The Early Iron Festival President, Jeff Woodward said they, “shattered” the record for most amount of cars on show. 585 vintage vehicles registered and a total of 603 vehicles were on show at Cole Park. The 34th annual festival attracted racecars, dragsters, club cars and even tractors.
In Regional news, a virus that resembles the common cold has struck thousands of people in Denver and elsewhere in the United States has hit Colorado Springs. The virus with symptoms similar to asthma is said to have most likely been in the area for months, however, people in southern Colorado are now suffering from the virus.  An emergency room physician at Memorial Hospital, Dr. David Steinbruner, said the virus settles in the lungs and makes conditions difficult to breath. The best prevention of the spread of the virus is similar to the common cold. Washing hands and avoiding contact with someone with the illness will help prevent spreading the virus. In national news, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, declared a state of emergency as widespread flooding in the Southwest- due to record amount of rain- killed several people. Flash flooding warnings in a number of parts of the state has been issued. Parts of Colorado, Utah, Nevada and California are on flood watch as the after effects of Hurricane Norbert affected the weather.
In International news, the Obama administration has gathered a 10-nation group to help combat ISIS. However, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said, “The U.S. and allies won’t put boots on the ground. … The Iraqis, Kurds, and Syrians will basically be doing the fighting.”The nations in the “core coalition” that will take on ISIS are Australia, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Turkey and the United States.
Turkey is the only one of the core coalition that resides next to the militant groups, giving them an increased role in defeating the militant group that is committing horrific acts of terror.
