The Adams State College football program has welcomed its 23 newest members as that number of high school senior signed letters of intent on Wednesday to continue their educational and football playing careers with the Grizzlies, starting this fall.
Wednesday’s National Signing Day was the first day that players can formally commit to the college of their choice.
The Grizzlies’ recruiting class, which is likely to grow in the coming days and weeks of the signing period, includes players from three states, thus far including Colorado, Arizona and California. A total of 21 different high schools, including 13 in Colorado, are represented. Arizona was also well represented as seven players from as many different high schools also signed. Bobby Anzures, a safety out of Moorpark, is the lone Californian.
Denver’s J.K. Mullen High School and Brighton High School were the only two high schools to contribute two future Grizzlies.
Additionally, it should be noted that six future Grizzlies were parts of state championship teams while in high school including Mullen offensive lineman Conor McKenna and running back Jevoni Hornbuckle, who have been parts of the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Mustang title teams that have won 33 straight games.
“This is as good of a recruiting class that we’ve ever had,” said Grizzly head coach Marty Heaton. We are very excited about the players we got and we think they will be a great compliment to the returning players who are already part of our program.
“I think we filled all of our needs, especially at the offensive line positions,” Heaton also said.
