Grizzlies go 0-2 on the weekend

The grizzlies took on the sixth-ranked Metro State College Roadrunners this past weekend at Auroria field in Denver, Colorado. The home field advantage definitely added to the Roadrunners strong field play as they held the grizzlies to just one shot on goal. The Roadrunners were led by Rebecca Mays who capped two goals and one assist on the day. Mays scored the first goal of the match up at the nine minute mark and then tallied another later in the first half. Taylor Nichols’ also scored a goal for the Roadrunners, along with teammates Ashley Nemmers and Alexis Peterson. The Grizzlies did well to hold the the lead to just one goal  in the first half up until Nichols’ goal in the 34th minute of the game. The Grizzly offense was led by shot takers Kenzie Favero, Ashley Grover, Jessica Hellweg, Jenna Iwaniec, and Autumn Boyer. In net for the lady Grizzlies was Sophomore Kirtsten Dorsey who had 7 saves on the day, adding to her RMAC total which is one of the highest in the RMAC. The loss dropped the Grizzlies to a 1-6 RMAC record and 3-8 on the season. The Grizzlies then traveled to Golden, Colorado for their second match up of the weekend against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers. The Grizzlies faced a strong Oredigger offense led by Senior Kayla Mitchell who had a hat trick in the match. In goal for the Grizzlies was Kirsten Dorsey who made seven saves in her 82 minutes of playing time, before being relieved by teammate Bry Aiken. The net time was the first recorded for Aiken this season. Adams State tallied 7 shots in the match up, 3 of which were on goal. The Grizzlies offense was led by Senior Ashley Sales who had two shots in the game, one on goal. Fellow shot takers for the Grizzlies were Passion Griffin, Kenzie Favero, Ashley Grover, Jenna Iawniec, and Bryanna Brown. With the loss the Grizzlies fall to 1-7 in the RMAC and 3-9 overall. They hope to boost these stats in their upcoming game against Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday October 7 at the Lopers home field. The match will be the second of the season between the two teams, the outcome of their first encounter being a 1-0 Grizzly win.
