Did anyone notice all the really cool and famous cars in town this weekend? What about how Main Street was shut down? Well this weekend a television show and charity event called the Fireball run was in town! Famous cars, like the Delorean from Back to the Future were featured in the run, as well as the ghost buster’s car; to name a few.
The Fireball run is filmed live and up on their website, once the run is over it will be published for all to see. The general idea of it is scavenger hunts in each little town they decide to run through for that particular year; currently they’re in their seventh season.
Only forty teams are selected to go and each team supports a missing child from their hometown. The Fireball Run travels through a lot of fun, little, historic towns, as well as bigger cities. The teams come from all over America to show off their car and help promote their home town. We have a team from Alamosa who joined this year- Vacation Alamosa!
Vacation Alamosa is made up of Keith Cerny and Debra Sowards-Cerny, the team of the San Luis Valley’s only daily newspaper. Both are on helping Alamosa and promoting our little town. They are looking for Elyssa Redden from Evergreen, CO. Her picture will be posted on her car for all the towns they visit to see.
This year the Fireball Run has visited Longmont, CO; Page, Arizona; Bloomfield, New Mexico; Mesa Arizona; Gallup, New Mexico; Alamosa, Co; and Riverside, California.
The Fireball Run group has actually had a lot of success with finding children they ride for. They have found 41 children in the past few years. It surprises me because some of these kids have been missing for so long., It’s great that a group comes together to promote finding them. All it takes is a picture on a cool looking, possibly famous, car going around the USA to catch peoples attention and bring forth the missing children; they do say a picture is worth a thousand words. Each team also has a card they pass out which features their team, their car, and the missing child from their hometown.
The Fireball Run came into Alamosa on Saturday and stayed until Monday. A huge block party was thrown on Saturday, where the cars were featured and people could come through and get a look at the cars and owners.  On Sunday, the racing began.
The teams were given papers of clues for things they have to find in the city of Alamosa- the scavenger hunt. They then made their way to the train depot and took a dinner train to Antonito and back. On Monday morning they left town.
