Athlete of the Week for October 7

Adams State College junior running back Terjean Saffold of the Grizzlies football team  has been named as the ASCGrizzlies.com/Paw Print Athlete of the Week for week ending on October 3.
Saffold had a career-high 176 combined rushing and receiving yards and scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns in Saturday’s game against nationally ranked and RMAC favorite Nebraska-Kearney. Saffold had 23 carries for a career-high 142 yards, good for an average of 6.2 per tote, and also caught two passes for 34 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown.
On the ground, Saffold had 105 yards in the fourth quarter alone rushing for 29 yards on a 3rd and-27 before darting 46 for the Grizzlies’ first touchdown on the same drive. He now has two 100-yard days this season and ranks fourth in the RMAC in total rushing with 343 yards.
The ASCGrizzlies.com/Paw Print Athlete of the Week award, which will be handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators as well as by visitors to the Grizzly website, who could cast their vote in an online poll.
This week’s voting was especially hard for all voters as there were 11 different athletes up for the honor. Saffold finished with three of the 10 administrator and media member first-place votes as he edged women’s golfer Kendell Martin, who had two first place votes. After overwhelming votes on the ASCGrizzlies.com poll, there was a three way tie for first place as Jennell Higgs of the women’s swimming team, Mary McNeil of the volleyball team and Ryan McNiff of the men’s cross country team each received 31.4 percent of the 1013 votes cast online.
