Adams State College sophomore wide receiver and special teams specialist from the Adams State football team Scott Kellogg, has been named as the ASCGrizzlies.com/Paw Print Athlete of the Week for week ending on Nov. 14. Kellogg has now won the honor two times this year.
Kellogg racked up a career-high 241 all-purpose yards in Saturday’s win over Western State as he averaged 19.0 yards per punt return and 33.3 yards per kick return while catching six passes for a team-high 84 yards and a key score.
His all-purpose total is the third greatest in ASC’s available single-game history (1997-Present) and helped him finish the year with 1,327 all-purpose yards, the most of any Grizzly in 13 years and the fourth best total in ASC’s NCAA Division II era (1992-Present) history.
Kellogg led the league in punt returns, as he averaged 16.5 yards on returns this season and finishes his season, ranked second in the RMAC for kick returning, averaging 26.1 yards per return.
He had been ranked 10th in the NCAA statistics for punt return average last week at 15.92 yards per return.
The ASCGrizzlies.com/Paw Print Athlete of the Week award, which will be handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators as well as by visitors to the Grizzly website, who could cast their vote in an online poll.
Kellogg narrowly won the online voting as he nabbed 42.8 percent of the 180 votes cast online while Luke McPeek of the wrestling team nabbed 42.2 percent of the votes.
Kellogg won the award in overwhelming fashion as he got five first place votes.
Shayar Lee of the men’s basketball team and Kendra Coveal of the women’s basketball team each received one first place vote. Jannell Higgs of the women’s swimming team was also nominated.
