Athlete of the Week: Feb. 2

Kaimyn Pruitt

Adams State junior men’s basketball player Kaimyn Pruitt (Los Angeles, Calif.) has been named the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 29.
Pruitt scored eight points on Wednesday, Jan. 25 against the Northern New Mexico Eagles. On Saturday, Jan. 28, Pruitt put up 17 points in an ASC victory over the Fort Lewis Skyhawks. He hit the game-winning shot with 17 seconds remaining in the contest and then blocked a shot by Fort Lewis to help the Grizzlies pull off a come-from-behind win. This marked the Grizzlies’ first victory against the Skyhawks in Durango since Feb. 3, 2004. In the Grizzlies’ two games, Pruitt also totaled four assists and three blocked shots.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week, which is handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators, as well as by visitors to ASCGrizzlies.com who cast their votes in an on-line fan poll.
Pruitt received first place votes from three of the five media members. He also came in first in the online fan poll with 29.1 percent of the votes cast. Men’s track and field athlete Kevin Batt (Sydney, Austrailia) was the only other athlete to receive first place votes and was second in the online voting with 26.7 percent.  Wrestler Luke McPeek (Albuquerque, N.M.) garnered 24.4 percent of the fan votes, putting the top three choices within five percent of each other.
Other nominees for the award included women’s basketball player Caitlin Boal (Albuquerque, N.M.) and women’s track and field athlete Kristen McGlynn (Bailey, Colo.).
