Athlete of the Week: April 28

Adams State College redshirt freshman on the women’s track and fieldteam, Katie Kruger has been named as the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete ofthe Week for the week ending on April 24.

Kruger won two events with season-best performances at the Western State Invitational as she set a RMAC-leading and improved NCAA provisional throw of 14.36 meters (47 feet, 1 1/2 inches) in the shotput on Friday before winning the discus throw with a personal-best mark of 41.46 meters (136’0”) on Saturday.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week award, which will be handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators as well as by visitors to the Grizzly website and to the ASC Grizzlies’ Facebook page, who could cast their vote in an online poll.
Kruger won the vote by nabbing four of the first place votes amongst the ASC administrators and media members. Softball catcher DJ Consonero, who hit her second homer of her career over the weekend, won the online vote as she garnered 25.7 percent of the 292 votes that were cast online. Kruger and men’s lacrosse player Anthony Willner each had 19.2 percent of the votes while women’s golfer Kendall Martin and men’s golfer Jonathan Atencio wrapped up the online votes as they each had18.2 and 17.8 percent, respectively.
Other nominees were junior varsity softball player Jennie Archambault, men’s track and field athlete James Douglas and women’s lacrosse player Kelli Hillick.
