ASC Athlete of the Week: October 28

Adams State College senior cross country runner Ashley Quintana has been named as the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week for week ending on October 24.
Quintana claimed her first collegiate cross country win by 86 seconds as she won the New Mexico Highlands Cross Country Jam.  She posted a time of 22:10 on the 6K course at the George Torres Golf Course, which is the same course that will be used for this year’s RMAC Championship.
Quintana, who is a 2-time USTFCCCA Cross Country All-American, had never led the Grizzlies at a meet until Saturday.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week award, which will be handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators as well as by visitors to the Grizzly website, who could cast their vote in an online poll.
Quintana won the award by getting 4 of the top eight first place votes. In the online vote, volleyball player Megan Tapia nabbed 57.3 percent of the 131 votes cast. Other nominees included cross country team’s Brandon Birdsong and men’s golfer Isaac Pacheco, men’s soccer player Dillon Lee and football’s Jeremiah Van Valkenburg.
