Evans School

Adams State is negotiating a contract to purchase the former Evans Elementary building, on First and La Veta, from the Alamosa School District. The site will host 70-some ASC courses this fall, as work is completed on McDaniel Hall. The school district is leasing the space to ASC at no charge for this semester.

Music Building
The Music Building remodel included addition of a new entrance on the east side of the building.

Music faculty and students now occupy the improved, expanded Music Building. The $5.7 million project features a 3,225-sq-ft., two-story addition and new east entrance. This space includes a new recording studio, two rehearsal halls, a percussion studio, and four new practice rooms. All interior walls were gutted and rebuilt to meet modern acoustical standards. New furnishings and musical instruments complete the package. The original building was constructed in 1958. The bulk of the project has taken only three months to complete, with exterior finishing and landscaping work to continue into the fall semester.

McDaniel Hall (ES Bldg.)

The renovation of McDaniel Hall corner of First and Richardson) is hoped to be finished in October. The project was delayed by the discovery of additional asbestos to be abated. This building was completely gutted and redesigned. The central feature of this $11.4 million project is a light-filled student study area on the south side of the second floor with a stairway open to the third floor. The first floor will include another study lounge, atrium, and adjacent outdoor patio. The project also includes new energy-efficient mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, a new 24-hour access student computer lab, and wi-fi connectivity.

A new, 131-space parking lot was constructed just east of McDaniel Hall between First St. and Richardson Ave. Nearly half of the spaces, on the east end of the lot are now available for use. The lot is accessible from First St.

$62 million in campus improvements

By the end of 2011, Adams State will have completed $62 million worth of new construction and renovation on campus since 2008.

X-Box boasts new seating

The ASC Theatre Program is proud to announce that on August 15, student and faculty volunteers installed $53,000 worth of new seating in Xperimental Theatre, or X-Box.

New seating was recently installed in the Experimental Theatre.

If you have ever attended a student directed theatre production in the Xperimental Theatre, you know that the seating offered challenges to audience members and their ability to sit for a two-hour production. Purchased in the mid-1970s, the seating had lived well past its life expectancy.

Over the last decade, the program has a set aside a little money each year to go towards the purchase of new seating. In 2009, that fund received a boost when Marguerite Salazar awarded a $5,000 gift from the The Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation. The gift was given in gratitude for the Theatre Program’s support of La Puente Home through the presentation of its annual holiday production. Additionally, the Theatre Program raised funds through its staged reading last spring of The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later. With the Theatre Program providing half of the funds, Adams State College contributed the remaining money to purchase the seats.
