Many exciting changes and activities have been taking place in Admissions recently. In an effort to better align recruitment for undergraduate, graduate, and distance programs and to provide savings through the vacant admissions director position, we have restructured the department. The Office of Graduate Studies is now housed in the Admissions Office in Richardson Hall. Co-directing Admissions are Dr. Penny Sanders, assistant vice president of Graduate Studies, and Karla Hardesty, Executive Director for Enrollment Management. Carissa Watts is serving as assistant director for Admissions Operations, and Samantha Sargent, the most senior on-campus counselor, is now assistant director for Admissions Recruitment.
The Admissions crew has started pre-registration for fall semester for undergraduates. We are proactively reaching out to students who need placement testing, admissions application, and financial aid help, etc., so they are ready to register when we visit or contact them. We are visiting all San Luis Valley and surrounding county high schools and holding evening registration events in New Mexico and on the Front Range in April and May.
Our Transfer Student Coordinator, Dave Wreford, is busy visiting nearly every community college in Colorado, and we visit all SLV high schools at least monthly with various activities and events.
Our team of student ambassadors, in addition to hosting campus visits daily M-F at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., have been assigned several projects, including updating the campus tour, creating a self-guided tour, and phone campaigning to prospective students. They contributed to the fun and success of Discover Day on February 17, which had record-breaking attendance. ASU bussed students to campus from Albuquerque, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo.
We are working closely with Chris Lopez and the Public Relations and Marketing team to improve our branding and outreach with prospective students. We are also increasing our supply of promotional items and publications, so please let us know if you need something.
As we register for fall semester, please let us know if you are interested in obtaining a list of prospective students who have expressed interest in your academic program. Some faculty are calling students on these lists to share more information about their program.
