Women’s Lacrosse Takes Down CSU-Pueblo in Overtime

The women’s lacrosse team secured their first victory of the 2015 season on Friday with a nerve-wracking overtime victory over the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves. After trading goals for the final few minutes of the game, ASU was able to hold off the Thunderwolves in overtime for a 13-12 victory.

Samantha Hammer scored the game winning goal for the Grizzlies with only 1:37 left in overtime. The team was then able to squash the Thunderwolves scoring attempts and walk away with the victory. Hammer had three goals in the contest. Several Grizzlies aided in the scoring effort. Kendra Cheda led the Grizzlies with four goals in the contest. Qiana Barfield also netted two goals. Jessica Hammer, Kates Raymond, and Aislinn Stace each also contributed a goal.

Goalie Danica Kristiansen recorded the win for Adams State, making nine saves during the game.

The game was also senior day for the Grizzlies, as it was their final home contest of the season. The team honored lone senior Heather Jones for her contributions to the team in her time at Adams State.

The Grizzlies will finish out their season on the road this weekend with contests against Fort Lewis and Mesa.
