On Wednesday, Jan. 25, Adams state College was proud to welcome comedian Pete Lee for a night of original stand up. The event was sponsored by our very own student events committee, GAB and saw a decent turn out for the musings of Lee on a wide variety of topics.
The night started out with a small crowd in Carson auditorium and some chatter before Lee’s arrival. Individuals were given the opportunity to tell jokes on stage as an opener for Lee who set the atmosphere for the night and the crowd was already amped for some good quality jokes. When Lee arrived on stage he was able to deliver.
His stand up was a quirky and smart commentary on the little annoyances and observations from the daily events of his and his take on being here in the San Luis Valley. Lee was able to get laughs from everyone in attendance. From light banter with audience members to enlightening us all on his own very humorous rants about everything, the night was laugh filled and left everyone highly elated and wanting more.
Lee first debuted on television on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. He has been on other Comedy Central specials and made it to the semi-finals on NBC’s Last Comic Standing. He has his own Comedy CD, Gasmony, and his own web show, Pete Lee’s Internet Freak Show at petelee.net. He has been noted as being a favorite on college campuses nationwide and is a good showman, capitalizing on his good guy/underdog persona to really make the audience feel like they’re good friends. Most in attendance were glad to have seen the show, and became ecstatic with the promise of free magnets in the lobby and absolutely freaked out that they were even signed by Lee himself. He promised to have the audience featured at the end of one of his next posts if they visited his website and joined his Facebook page. Given his great standup performance, his fantastic familiarity with the audience and his genuine personality it was no wonder that he had a huge line for fan t-shirts.
The night with Lee was a great event put on by GAB and from this event alone, many can truly see the quality of events GAB has planned for the rest of the semester. The small number of attendees was the only negative of the night, but those who attended surely felt the benefit of being there.
