Food is one of the many pleasures and comforts we have in our lives, especially as college students. It’s nice having the dining hall right outside our doors, but after a whole year, the food from the dining hall can get a little boring, and sometimes sickening. Eating the same thing every day gets old quite fast. Although Alamosa is a fairly small town where many of us think there’s not much to do, we do have some great restaurants. Surely, if you’ve been here a few months, or a few years, there are going to be some restaurants you’ve never eaten at before. It is natural for people to pick a favorite place, or a favorite dish to eat at a certain place, but it is also healthy and a bit fun to try something new every now and then. If you are someone who enjoys trying something new then maybe trying a new restaurant would be a great idea. Here are Alamosa’s top five restaurants and some of their reviews according to Tripadvisor.com

Calvillo’s Mexican Restaurant: Calvillo’s has been complimented on their wonderful dinner buffet and their fresh fruit and vegetables. Many reviewers have stated that Calvillo’s is a very friendly and inviting restaurant to eat at. Travelers passing through Alamosa have said that the prices are reasonable and the food is excellent. If you are a fan of Mexican Food and you haven’t tried Calvillo’s yet this might be the place for you.

Campus Cafe: Campus Cafe is one of the more popular restaurants in Alamosa and the reviews have explained why. The breakfast is affordable, and the portions are huge. One of the dishes Campus is known for is their Giant Cinnamon Roll. The restaurant is a big hit with the college students, so if you’re trying something new, this might be a great place to start.

Milagros Coffee House: If you’re a coffee drinker this is probably one of the best coffee places in Alamosa. Milagros is a cozy coffee shop on Main Street and aside from coffee and delicious drinks; they also serve fresh food as a nice snack for a study break or just to catch up with some friends. Not only do they have excellent coffee, but some of the proceeds go to homeless shelters and the local food bank.

Bistro Rialto: The Bistro Rialto is a delicious and affordable Italian restaurant right in the middle of Alamosa. Who says you need to drive to the city to have great Italian food that is well worth the price you pay. The staff is friendly, service is excellent, and they also offer a great gluten free pasta and pizza for those of you who can’t have gluten.

San Luis Valley Brewing Company: Of course at a Brewery the beer is going to be one of the popular and essential items on the menu and, according to the reviews, they didn’t fall short. The beer variety is great and the food isn’t far behind. Another restaurant that many people find impressive while coming through a small town such as Alamosa.
