It is the end of the semester and that means classes are about done with! Freshman Year is practically over and I loved every day that I was here! I cannot wait to go home, but I will definitely miss walking to the elementary and entering that classroom full of wonderful children who called me Ms. K! After the first two weeks, I received hugs every time I walked into that classroom and that made me feel appreciated. Now that this is my last week them, it is time to say good bye and wish them luck when they go to 5th grade.

My 4th graders are wonderful, they made me change my thoughts about children. In the beginning I thought “what am I getting myself into?” but that is not a problem anymore, because I love being around children now:) Thanks to them!

For 4th graders, they truly know how to shower you with gifts! They gave me a pretty flower basket, inside was a card that everyone signed, my favorite candy bar, my favorite chips, my favorite drink, roses :) which is soooooo beautiful! it reminds me of Beauty and the Beast, a gift card to my favorite Mexican restaurant, and a gift card to Starbucks. They are amazing, smart, and funny kids! I’m going to miss them!

It is an amazing experience to mentor young children because in their eyes, you’re almost like a big sister or brother. The 4th graders I mentor are so great and they can accomplish anything. For example, Evans Elementary is a school that can raise money for a good cause, like the Sacred Heart Foundation. Evans is known to be one of the top schools in Colorado to raise a lot of money. That just proves our Alamosa community is helping contribute.

In return for a successful fundraiser, ADAMS STATE COLLEGE awarded the children of Evans Elementary with an afternoon full of fun activities. The kids were running around, having fun,  and students from ASC came to help out the entire event. It was a very interesting afternoon in the field house and everyone deserved it.

What more can you do on a Friday night? Going to the movies with friends is definitely fun. It was the first time I watched a movie at Sky High 6 and I enjoyed every minute. My friend Kirsten and I wanted to go to the Sand Dunes after the movie, so we can do a project for our Astronomy class. Well, we didn’t really know how to get there, so our Diego drove us out there. It was about 11 pm when we finally reached the Sand Dunes and it was fun walking in the sand even though it was dark. On the way back was fun also because we sang along with the radio and we saw soooooo much deer. The night was fantastic! It is was just another wonderful day as an ASC student

April is here and that means just one full month left of classes and summer begins!!!! This year has been absolutely amazing and for those that are still in high school, YOUR FIRST YEAR OF COLLEGE WILL FLY BY FAST!!! I loved every minute and I have met some wonderful people who made Adams State College feel like home. For sure, I’m coming back next year and I’m already planning my sophomore year of college. New Mexico is my first home but at times its great to be in Colorado. Alamosa has a lot to offer, it may be a small college but each student ALWAYS benefits from something here!

Okay! This is the only reason why I signed up for Astronomy, just so I can go into the Planetarium :)

I have never been in one so I thought it was pretty awesome. The entire building was pretty legit and I enjoyed every minute of it! I felt like I was under the night sky, but I found out that I’m not a good artist because we had to draw a descriptive picture of the moon. It was super funny when my professor looked at my drawing but he said good job because I tried :) .

I thought Astronomy would be boring but it’s actually one of my favorite classes this semester. So if you get the chance to take an Astronomy class, take it! The class is super fun, especially if you have a professor that loves teaching the course and you can tell because he or she will always wear a shirt that pretty much gives you an idea about the upcoming lecture.  A shirt like this! :)

Ice Climbing is an outdoors activity that everyone should try! This weekend was amazing because our own Adventure Club took some ASC students for an all day ice climbing trip. It was worth waking up early and driving two hours to get to our site. At first, the place was just covered with snow and I thought “Oooooooh my gosh! Were going to hike for a long time,” but we only hiked for 20 minutes and it was then that we saw the Ice Wall! :D I was nervous because I was not sure if I would be able to do it, but after a while I got the hang of it and (ooooh boy!) each climb was amazing! At a certain time while climbing you were able to hear and see the waterfall underneath the ice! It was beautiful!

Coming to Colorado in general, you should expect some snow, but the snow lasting this long is a big surprise. Over the weekend, some of the student ambassadors, some friends, and even our own boss came sledding with us. FYI Bosses are great! They take time out of their busy lives to spend a day with the individuals they work with and it is a great opportunity to get to know them outside of work. Anyways, the day was perfect, a little chilly but overall sledding was awesome! One fellow ambassador Jordan definitely took the title of most wipe outs! The real workout however was walking up the hill, so the routine was climb the hill, REST, get ready to slide down, REST, slide down the hill(pray that you won’t wipe out), scream, look at the others at the top of the hill because that’s where you want to be, and eventually start your way back up. I do not know how many times I had to climb up the hill but it was worth it :) .

This is the 1st time I’ve seen so much snow! But, I heard this is one of those winters that isn’t so bad….Does that mean it can get worse? There can be inches of snow here and we would still have class. If I was home in New Mexico, black ice would be considered a snow day. Yet the snow is entertaining because it seems like everyone here enjoys the snow. The weird part is having a scheduled Snow Day, at least its a day off right?

It’s February, that means Valentines Day is coming up and watching  ALMOST, MAINE was the perfect romance comedy to start off the month. This was the first play I attended and I absolutely loved every minute! This play is not just about love and its happy endings but everything good and bad about love.  Not only was it about love but it was full of comedy moments. Each scene portrayed a certain type of love, such as, love you have to wait for, fixing a broken heart, finding love after you’ve lost the person you really loved, feeling love and pain for the first time, almost giving back the love you had but you needed love, friendship love, love does not last forever, losing love forever because you didn’t have the courage to keep it, and discovering love for the first time. This play portrays every aspect of love and it truly is a great play to see!

Okay, there  is this gentleman that sits near me in my Theatre class and one day I over hear him talking about our ASC basketball team. He said that they were playing Fort Lewis College and he made the game seem really interesting. Therefore, right after class I had to tell my friends that we needed to watch the game. It was really interesting because it was Hawaiian Night at the Grizzle Den and man our college students can really get involved. Oh! not only did the students go along with the theme but faculty, professors, and spectators participated by wearing Hawaiian shirts, beach cloths, swim suits, etc. Anyways, the women and men basketball teams both played that night and “WOW,” they could play. However, Fort Lewis was a tough team to beat, but overall it was good game. Spectators and Grizzle Fans really showed their support for their teams and it was really awesome!
